As educators we are committed to nurturing the leadership skills and confidence of every student. We wish to promote leadership that is defined by actions and genuine, meaningful service, not by titles or positions. It is the duty of the administration in particular and the community of each citizen (student, staff & faculty) in general to IDENTIFY, ENCOURAGE, ENGAGE & SUPPORT student leaders.
We believe that:
- Student leadership takes on many diverse and varied forms
- Every student leader has different qualities and skills, which qualify him or her for different sorts of service
- Student leaders may be identified through various and equally valuable channels. They could be:
- recognized by advisors and faculty
- appointed by peers or juniors
- acknowledged on account of the services they perform, or due to the quality/impact of their work
- Student should be able to realize their potential as leaders through collaboration instead of competition
- There is no hierarchy between leaders, only areas of responsibility. Students appointed as aides by faculty or staff members have specific work, as do students who establish their own clubs or sign up for event committees, etc. All of these are as valuable as the quality of their service.
- Advice and logistical support (for example assistance planning, budgeting and executing projects) must be available to all members of the community.
- A leader should be judged by the merit of her work, which should speak for itself.
- All students, regardless of their roles within the community, are representatives of the School and therefore have an equal duty to behave responsibly, rationally, and admirably at all times; and expect admirable conduct from their peers.
